My name is Kayce Susong and I am delighted to be your child's 1st grade teacher. I am a native of Clarksville, having attended Barksdale as a student myself. I graduated with honors from Austin Peay for both my undergraduate degree in 2006 and my master's degree in reading in 2020. This is my 15th year to teach and I am really enjoying the experience. My husband Adam and I have two sons and a daughter who have all been proud to wear the Bengal blue and orange colors! I look forward to working with you and your child this year. I would like to thank you in advance for investing your time and energy in your child's education. Together we will help your child learn and grow.

This year I am pleased to introduce to you our first grade teacher residents, Melay Nichols and Sarah Glenn Hodges. In addition to serving as educational assistants in first grade, they are earning their master's degrees from Lipscomb University in K-5 education and Special Education. We are blessed to have their support this year in our class as they work on earning their teaching licenses. Please feel free to contact all of us this year through Class Dojo or our school email addresses.

Hello, my name is Melay Nichols and I am a BSN, RN and completed my undergraduate study at APSU.  I have been married for 18 years, and we have three precious little girls at home.  My family loves softball, so you may have seen us on a ballfield!  I am so excited to help your child learn and grow this year as a Lipscomp Teaching Resident!  This is my sixth year with CMCSS as I am transitioning from school nursing to teaching.  I love to learn new things, so I am so excited and thankful to have the opportunity to help your son or daughter this school year.

Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Glenn Hodges and I will be in your child's classroom this year and can't tell you how excited I am to be with your child. I received my Bachelors degree in Family and Consumer Science from Lipscomb University. I am the wife of a farmer and a mother of four beautiful children. Before coming to Barksdale, I worked as a Special Education assistant at Montgomery Central Elementary. My main focus was servicing children with IEP's and 504's. Special Education is my passion and hope to one day become and Special Education teacher!Thank you for providing me the opportunity to work with your child, and I look forward to learning from my mentor teacher, Mrs. Susong and from your child as well!
